I Have What it Takes

Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

(Genesis 12:1-4 ESV)

During his pregame speech to his Kansas Jayhawks, Coach Bill Self told his team that their best would be good enough. His team went out and played hard but was beaten by a superior Kentucky team for the NCAA Basketball championship. However, his point is worth considering. Do we believe that our best is good enough? Are we confident that we have what it takes to accomplish what we are meant to do?

God called Abram (later called Abraham) to go to a place that God, himself, would show him. Abram would need to leave nearly everything he had come to rely on during his 75 years of living. He would be totally dependent on what God would do in Him.

God calls us to go from what we know to the place where He is all we know. He calls us from the place of having what we need to the place where He is all we have. His desire is that we develop a pattern of dependence on Him rather than on what we think we have. This is far from our natural tendency. To answer His call is to agree to have Him move our dependence from the natural to the supernatural.

When you feel like you need what you do not have there are only two possibilities of what God is saying. He is either saying that you don't really need it or He is saying you have not yet asked. Beware of the lie that past mistakes have caused God to withhold His provision of blessing in your life. We deserve nothing yet God wants to give what we do not deserve. Ask, and you may be surprised to find that you have exactly what you need.

HOUSE OF LOVE

(for couples with and without children)

This class is designed to help couples build a house characterized by the kind of love God has demonstrated to us through His son Jesus Christ. While marriage is both the most regarding and most challenging of human relationships, close friendships between couples walking the same path greatly adds to both the joy and success of marriages. This class will encourage couples with and without children to build their homes on the love of Jesus and in community with others.
